About BG Venues

BG Venues is the trading name of BG (Lincoln) Ltd, the commercial company of Bishop Grosseteste University.

The origins of the University began in 1862 as a diocesan training school and although the name may have changed over the years, the college remained one of the top teacher training colleges in the country culminating with the granting of degree powers in 2006 and full university status in 2012.

Bishop Grosseteste University is named after Robert Grosseteste who was thought to have been born around 1170. Grosseteste was a greatly respected teacher, scientist and theologian who was consecrated Bishop of Lincoln 1235. During his lifetime he wrote many texts, including philosophical commentaries, prayers and scientific treaties. His tomb is in Lincoln Cathedral.

The vision of the University states that "Bishop Grosseteste University is committed to being a leader in learning, to inspire excellence, and to enrich the lives of its students and staff and the communities it serves".

BG Venues exists to support the University in achieving that Vision, as reflected in our own Mission Statement - "To further the work and charitable objectives of Bishop Grosseteste University, facilitating the use of the University by external organisations and individuals, and enhancing the experience of those external organisations ands individuals by providing customer service throughout their visit".
